If I was teaching (but, of course, I'm not) this is what I would do:
- I would get a big map of the Western Hemisphere and post it on my wall with a marker hanging beside it. Every month or so, I would draw a red line on the map following the route we took.
- Every day I would read the blog. We will have daily posts in the blog, although there will be days when we won’t have internet so won’t be able to post that entry until later. (In today’s world,
that alone could be a good lesson for kids – you mean they don’t have computers and internet and TV every day?!? Egads!!) The blog will more personal in nature and will talk about how we felt
when we saw places or about our interactions throughout the day.
- Next I would head over to the Educator’s Corner. This section of our website will have a more “academic” feel to it and will be more research-based and content driven. We won’t post here every day,
but will make a concerted effort to make as many posts as we possibly can. In this corner, you will find photo essays explaining what we are learning. We might write about:
- the Alaskan pipeline
- an Incan village
- an estuary
- an earthquake zone
There is no way we can know what we will learn as we travel, therefore no way to predict what will be posted here. What we do know, however, is that we will learn a lot. And we hope you are along for the ride.
- When we post an essay in this corner, we will add some teaching ideas. You can do what you like with them! We might end up with:
- a crossword puzzle for you to download
- a list of topics for further reasearch
- a scavenger hunt list
- some questions for discussion
Each topic will demand different activities and we will try to suggest some of them. That being said, our suggestions will be only that: suggestions. You can take the material we post and glance at it and move on,
or you can choose to dig deep and unearth even more.
