Preparing for a Tunnel62 viewsWe hate tunnels! They are always so narrow and we have no way to get out of the way of trucks barreling through. And they always seem to blast their horns which echo back and forth and scare the living daylights outta us! Here we are preparing for the tunnel by putting blinkies on our bikes.

Wipeout!62 viewsWe went so fast down the dunes, there were times when we simply couldn't stay on the board any more.

Ancient Aquaducts48 viewsThese circles are some ancient aquaducts. The ancient people (from about 2000 years ago!) built a whole series of channels to bring water to the area. These aquaducts are basically access points. The water runs in the channel all year long, even if the ground water in the area dries us. This system is still in use today to water the fields you see around them.

Watching Rocks Move44 views...and then they watched it roll allllll the way down. When it reached the bottom and crashed into a dry river bed, they cheered and rejoiced.

Steep Climb65 viewsWe (or should I say, John?) chose the alternate route to Arequipa which involved an extra 1000-foot climb, and then we would descend into Arequipa. It was a VERY steep climb!

On the Roof of the World!68 viewsWe have no idea how high Machu Picchu Mountain is, but they climbed pretty high!

Model of the islands42 viewsThey get the base for the islands by going to an area with very dense reeds and cutting off a big block of the roots. After dragging it to where they want it, they pile layer upon layer upon layer of reeds on top. The matted part is about 1 meter thick and they pile another 3 meters of reeds on top.
